China has been closely following recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the country’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Huang Xingyuan, told CNA.
Invited to comment on the presence of Turkish drill ship “Yavuz” in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus and the announced attempt to drill another well in blocks licensed to European companies, the Ambassador said that China understands and supports efforts made by Cyprus in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“In view of the ongoing pandemic, we do not hope to see any actions that hinder or distract joint efforts in combating COVID-19,” he said.
