Children rights affected by measures against coronavirus, Commissioner Michaelidou tells CNA
Children rights have not remained unaffected by the measures imposed in Cyprus to contain the spread of COVID-19. At a time when the primary concern was the preservation of public health, some significant challenges came up and were reported as complaints to the Commissioner of Children’s rights. Many of the complaints are being investigated.
Speaking to CNA, Commissioner of Children’s rights, Despo Michaelidou - Livaniou, referred to many problems that were identified, either through complaints that were submitted to her Office or after her the Office’s ex-officio investigation. She acknowledged the significant efforts made by many ministries under difficult circumstances to address the issues and said that restrictions on certain rights were justified for public health reasons. She said however, that there should be efforts to compensate these restriction
