Cyprus takes steps forward in LGBTI rights, President's Adviser says

The road to the elimination of discrimination and prejudice is long and difficult, says Costa Gavrielides, the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Cyprus on matters of Multiculturism, Acceptance and Respect for Diversity, he notes however that Cyprus takes steps forward.

In an announcement on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2020, Gavrielides says that this year, Cyprus saw a significant rise in the annual Rainbow Europe index of the international LGBTI rights organisation ILGA-Europe, which was published on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2020.

In particular, with 31% on the index Cyprus rose to 19th place (from 23rd in 2019) among the countries of the European Union, and 29th among 49 countries of the Council of Europe, he says.
