Hellenic Parliament to approve East Med natural gas pipeline agreement with broad consensus

The Hellenic Parliament is voting today the intergovernmental agreement for the construction of the EastMed natural gas pipeline. The agreement is expected to be approved with broad consensus.

In his speech at the Hellenic Parliament, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Kostis Hatzidakis said that this agreement reinforces Greece’s economic and international status. He also expressed the view that the EastMed agreement sends a clear message to Turkey to “abandon its provocativeness and its revisionist stance, which are not aligned with the modern world”.

Hatzidakis stressed that last December President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan challenged directly the right of Greece, Cyprus and Israel, to construct this pipeline.
