Checkpoints became operational again, no crossing as of early afternoon
Checkpoints across the island became operational again on Monday, following an agreement reached between President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on May 21. The two leaders agreed that certain groups of people are allowed to pass and the Cyprus government issued an announcement last Friday reminding the people who wish to pass of the rules applied and the certificates that they must carry with them.
Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushios said last week that Cyprus stands ready to resume the operation of crossing points and recalled that the Ministry of Interior announced the procedure to be followed for those crossing.
