GRETA report calls for effective legal aid and compensation for human trafficking victims in Cyprus

A total of 801 presumed victims of trafficking in human beings were identified in Cyprus during 2015-2019, out of whom 190 were formally identified. Some 80% of them were female, says a report published on Thursday by the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA). The Group of experts expresses concern that during the period under review no legal aid has been provided to trafficking victims, and only two applications for legal aid for the purpose of claiming compensation have been approved by the Attorney General’s Office.
