The Greece-Italy agreement recognizes the islands’ right to possess EEZ, Lakkotrypis says
Cyprus’ Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Giorgos Lakkotrypis said that the Greek-Italy agreement for the delimitation of maritime zones –signed on Monday in Athens– is a historic moment.
In an interview with the Greek TV station “Open TV”, Lakkotrypis stressed that one of the high points of the agreement is the fact that it recognizes the islands’ right to possess maritime zones, as defined by the Law of the Sea. According to Lakkotrypis, this provision “is in stark contrast to Turkey’s groundless rhetoric, which suggests that the islands do not have the right to Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)”.
