Conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque an insult to world heritage, Cyprus President points out
The conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque, is a direct insult to world heritage and international institutions, Cyprus’ President Nicos Anastasiades, wrote in a post on Twitter.
He also points out that this action offends historical memory, European values and disrespects the religious sentiment of Christians, Orthodox and non-Orthodox around the world.
"Hagia Sophia is an ecumenical monument with a huge history, whose character is now being altered by the Turkish President, in order to serve short-sighted political games," said President Anastasiades.
