Cyprus records annual deflation of 2.2%, monthly inflation 0.4% in June
Cyprus recorded deflation of 2.2% in June this year compared to June 2019 but a slight inflation of 0.4% on a monthly basis, according to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service.
In June 2020 the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) decreased by 2.2% compared to the index of June 2019 while compared to the index of May 2020, the HICP increased by 0.4%, a CyStat press release says.
For the period January - June 2020 the HICP recorded a decrease of 0.5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Compared to June 2019, the categories Transport and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels had the largest negative changes with percentages of 8.5% and 5.5% respectively, it adds.
Compared to May 2020, the largest change was recorded in the category Transport (3.3%).
