House President condemns Turkish decision to turn Hagia Sophia into mosque
Hagia Sophia will always be a symbol of Christian Orthodoxy, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris says in social media posts, and accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of “historical blasphemy” regarding the decision to turn the monument into an Islamic mosque.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Constantinos Petrides wrote on Twitter that “turning iconic #HagiaSophia into a mosque is not just an insult to #world #heritage. It is also one the worst acts of #Erdogan aggression and Islamic expansionism.
