Today marks a day of reflection for the consequences of the betrayal, President says

Today is a day of honour for those who sacrificed their lives but also a day of reflection on the consequences of the betrayal, President Nicos Anastasiades said, on Wednesday, following a memorial service for those who died during the 1974 coup d`etat.  The Greek military junta, then ruling Greece, toppled on July 15, 1974 the democratically elected president of Cyprus, the late Archbishop Makarios III. The events which unfolded led to Cyprus’ division and occupation by Turkey.
