Foreign Office letter: Cyprus settlement of “utmost importance”

The UK continues to be a strong supporter of a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of this issue, based on the internationally accepted model of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, the Foreign Office has reiterated in a letter to a group of UK Cypriots.

On the issue of guarantees and the future security of Cyprus, the Foreign Office letter restates that the UK has been clear it is “open to whatever arrangements the two sides and the other Guarantor Powers can agree on in order to meet the security needs of the two Cypriot communities.”

The UK Government is following “with concern” developments regarding to Turkish drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean and “has repeatedly expressed opposition to Turkish drilling in the waters around Cyprus both in public and in private.
