The situation in the Eastern Mediterranean has to be settled in a  spirit of compromise, but compromise does not mean capitulation, said the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta Evarist Bartolo, after the talks he had in Nicosia with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, with whom he discussed, inter alia, about the ongoing Turkish provocations in Cyprus`  maritime zones.

On his part, Christodoulides underlined that "we need to act in a swift and decisive manner in order to protect peace and stability around our shared sea," noting that "we, as EU member states, are bound by the duty to defend the core principles on which the EU is based and that there cannot be double standards or selective sensitivity as regards the EU stance on matters of principles."
