Turkey is trying to torpedo, a new effort by the UN for the resumption of the Cyprus peace talks, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushos has said.

Koushos issued a written statement Thursday, following a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, to comment on UNSG’s commitment and determination to convene a Conference on the Cyprus issue, based on what was agreed at a dinner in Berlin with President Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, after the election of new leader of the Turkish Cypriot community to take place in the occupied areas.

He added that in Berlin, in November 2019, President Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci agreed to resume the talks from where they left off in Crans Montana, in 2017, based on the UN resolutions, the EU principles and the European acquis, and the framework of the UN Secretary General.
