Cyprus not only interested in sanctions but also in finding a solution, says Defence Minister

Cyprus' President Nicos Anastasiades has made it clear to the international community that the Republic of Cyprus is not only interested in sanctions, but also to find a solution to the Cyprus problem through dialogue, said on Sunday, the Minister of Defence Charalambos Petrides, in his speech at the annual Memorial Service of Heroes of the Anarita Community.

At the same time Petrides expressed disappointment over Turkey continued provocative and aggressive behaviour, with the recent opening of part of Varosha beach front and the continuing violation of international law in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Greek continental shelf.

It is now a fact, he added, that Turkey “is escalating tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean region, provoking also a reaction from the international community, including the Security Council and the United Nations”.
