Foreign Office letter details the UK’s concern and response to Varosha opening
A letter by Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Wendy Morton to Sir Roger Gale MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Cyprus, details the concern and response by the UK Government to the opening of the beachfront of the fenced-off part of Famagusta in violation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Morton states that the UK greeted with concern the announcement by Turkish President and Ersin Tatar on 6 October that they would open the beach within the fenced-off area of Varosha and the subsequent opening of this beach on 8 October.
“We made representations to Turkey through our Embassy in Ankara both prior to and following the announcement.
