Undoubtedly there is a difference in positions, Cyprus President says after meeting with Tatar

New Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar proposed the discussion of other forms of solution to the Cyprus problem, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday, noting that “undoubtedly there is a difference in (our) positions.”

In statements upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace following a first informal meeting he had with Tatar under the aegis of the UNSG’s Special Representative in Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar, President Anastasiades said that the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere.

As expected, he noted, on my part I expressed my determination to take part in a new five-party meeting, in accordance with a letter the UNSG sent recently to both himself and Tatar, “so that we can discuss on the basis of the UN resolutions, on the basis of a bicommunal, bi-zonal federation.
