Cyprus was not involved in a case of misuse of EU funds, OLAF tells AG
European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has told Attorney General Costas Clerides that a case concerning the misuse of European funds did not take place in Cyprus and that no Cypriot citizens or companies were involved.
Clerides had written to OLAF seeking clarifications following a press release by the European watchdog which referred to a case of redirecting funds which had been allocated for environmental research to a casino-hotel project in Cyprus.
In a letter of reply OLAF’s Director General Ville Itala clarified and confirmed that his office has had no contact with any authorities in the Republic of Cyprus because none of the activities under investigation has taken place in Cyprus, nor were Cypriot ci
