Cyprus President to meet German Chancellor in Brussels, FM says

Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will have a tete-a-tete with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Brussels where he will fly on Thursday to attend the European Council meeting that will take place on July 17-18, Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides has said.

Asked if the German EU Presidency probed Nicosia with regard to the dialogue on the Eastern Mediterranean that is being promoted, Christodoulides said that “there is a conscious effort on the part of Turkey to present its illegal behaviour in the Eastern Mediterranean purportedly to protect the Turkish Cypriots’ rights.”

He noted that these arguments lack any seriousness, adding that it is well known to everyone how Turkey acts not only as regards Cyprus but also as regards the Eastern Mediterranean.
