Preserving Hagia Sophia's safety is Turkey's direct responsibility, Russian Ambassador says

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cyprus, Stanislav Osadchiy, has said that preserving Hagia Sophia`s safety  is Turkey`s direct responsibility to world culture and that Hagia Sophia should be open for all Christians.

In a comment on the conversion of Hagia Sophia cathedral museum into a mosque, posted on social media, Osadchiy said that "Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the change of status of Hagia Sophia, sacred by Christians".

He went on to say that the Russian leader draw the attention of his Turkish counterpart to the fact that this Church is the great monument as well as a part of world historical and cultural heritage.
