President Michel called Erdogan to de-escalate tensions

The President of the European Council Charles Michel called the President of Turkey R.T. Erdogan to de-escalate tensions in the region and pointed out that direct dialogue between parties is "the best way to overcome current disputes", during a telephone call earlier today.

More specifically, according to Council sources that briefed the Press in Brussels, during the call, President Michel recalled the EU’s positions and the full solidarity with Greece and Cyprus, including the "condemnation of the Libyan-Turkey agreement".

Furthermore C.Michel called Erdogan to de-escalate tensions in the region and avoid provocations. "Direct dialogue between parties is the best way to overcome current disputes", he noted.

The President closely follows the situation and remains in contact with all parties, Council sources say.
