Prudence and more intense efforts needed to address Turkish threats, Defense Minister says

The current situation of the Cyprus problem requires prudence and more intense efforts to address the Turkish threats and provocations regarding our sovereign rights, Defense Minister Charalambos Petrides said, speaking at an annual memorial service for the fallen and deceased Cypriot Army officers.

He said that Turkey`s provocative actions in the Cypriot exclusive economic zone and the fenced off town of Varosha do not assist the resumption of the dialogue for the Cyprus problem and recalled that the UN Security Council has reaffirmed the status of Varosha as set out in previous Security Council resolutions.

Petrides also said that friendly to Cyprus countries, such as Greece, the US, Russia, China, France and Germany have strongly condemned the opening of Varosha.
