UN Secretary General to issue announcement following developments in Varosha, Spokesperson reaffirms SC resolutions
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to issue within the course of the day an announcement regarding the intention of the regime in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus to proceed on Thursday with the opening of Varosha, the fenced-off part of Famagusta, said Stéphane Dujarric, the UN SG Spokesperson.
Asked by CNA during the daily press briefing what the Secretary-General plans to do after the announcement by the regime in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus to reopen Varosha on Thursday, with the support of Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, Dujarric said that the UN are aware of the situation on the ground and there will be an announcement shortly.
